Strategic Goals
The center currently serves as a learning tool and a resource for Georgia State faculty, staff, and students, as well as for its local and global communities.
Undergraduate and Graduate Student Engagement
Student engagement is at the heart of the academic research and programming of the center. In an effort to advance research, teaching, and outreach on topics related to the life, experiences, and culture of the African diasporic communities, the center seeks to provide access to research and professionalization opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. Student engagement opportunities range from research opportunities with affiliate faculty, administrative experience in program administration, community engagement in the Atlanta community, and digital media opportunities.

Research Areas
With its large number of researchers, CSAD organizes them into groups called Focus Research Areas. CSAD encourages interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects. Each team has a Focus Research Area leader responsible for setting the goals, maintaining key academic/community/industry relationships, and attracting additional funding for the research in the focal area.
