Stay tuned for the 2025 CSAD Global Read-A-Thon themed "Roots: The Journey of Us." Date, February 26, starting at 1 p.m. ET
Join CSAD for the third annual Global Read-a-Thon in honor of Black History Month and to celebrate books across Africa and the African diaspora.
This year the Read-a-Thon focuses on migration, journeys that have moved people across oceans, countries, and towns. We will explore narratives of journeys across the African diaspora. This includes journeys such as the transatlantic passage from West Africa to the Americas, the Great Migration from the American South to the North, and diverse migrant experiences across regional borders and spanning Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Over the past two years, this virtual event has gained international participation and support from the U.S. Embassy in Banjul; the Johannes Gutenberg University Obama Institute in Mainz, Germany; Centro de Estudios Afrodiaspóricos (CEAF) at Universidad Icesi in Cali, Colombia; and the University of the West Indies in Mona, Jamaica. CSAD continues to expand our global partnerships. This year, plans are for Ghana, Ethiopia, and Brazil to be among our international partners.
The Read-a-Thon reaffirms CSAD's commitment to promoting cultural enrichment through literature and education, serving as a platform for engaging global audiences in critical discussions on African and diasporic histories and experiences and amplifying our traditions and practices.
